How do I go about making a map?

Postby GeneralSturnn » Sun Jan 29, 2017 7:11 am

Hi, I can't seem to find a guide, but it seems this game will serve my needs better than certain other games I will not mention(due to me not knowing if I may mentions others by name or not)

So, how do I go about creating one? I had a project that was 6 months in the making at another site, but the map editor broke so I am unable to create further maps...

You can mention other ones if you like, that's fine. I used to play at Conquer Club, and I started this site around the same time as the guy who started Dominating 12 - in fact, he and I used to chat quite often about how to go about making a site like this.

Don't despair, but currently the Map Project code is in the legacy area, which I haven't configured to work with v3.1 of the forums. I can get that up and running without too much of a problem, but it will take a couple of weeks. The new code standard is identical apart from client-server comms, which means I would need to tailor each call to the server and return to the client. In Map Projects, there's maybe 30 different functions available, so that's why it will take a little while - not difficult, just time consuming.

With Map Projects, I generally pay people for the maps, but they have to be of an acceptable quality and size. I tend to vet people before they get started, so that no-one wastes their time. Most other sites have maximum size limits for maps - we have a minimum size limit. This is mainly because each territory needs to accommodate a 50x50 square to place the minimum sized territory placeholder in.

On the other hand, if you want to make a playable game from an existing Map and Era Project, that's what we call a Scenario Project. That code (and the Era code for that matter) works completely fine. This can be a good way of contributing to the site if you don't have artistic talent but still want to create content. Again, these projects are paid, but not as much as for maps.

If you want to discuss further, private message me and I'll be happy to talk you through it.

For Rules, do Artillery exist? I mean like where they add attack bonus's to attacking Infantry? or can they bombard?

That's Era Projects. At the moment we only have classic and medieval, but there's plans to get more rules in this year
