Why do you play?

Postby redsharkk » Thu Mar 13, 2014 1:08 pm

I'd like this to get a few responses just to rev up the community a bit ;) . But yeah, why do you play Art of War? Personally, I play this game because it's a stress reliever, unless I keep getting two of my own armies eliminated at the same time  . I can typically count on art of war always being there for me to have my attention on. It's been quite a constant in my life the past year and half, except when I was rather inactive for several months. I think its great we get this opportunity (thanks e_i_pi) and I also like interacting with fellow RISK players.

Also, if this post gets old but you are new or are just seeing it, feel free to comment! Posts on forums are always appreciated I'm sure, except that porn spam a while back

Mainly because I like playing strategy games, and usually I can't play against other people because I don't often have 4-8 hours free. I can't remember how I found this site, but I like playing the Risk-like game style that allows for a little more strategy.

I like that I can play more than one game at once while also not being obligated to play "right now" at any given time.

I like strategy games! This is one of the ways I keep my mind strong. I enjoy Risk+ games that enable more strategy than the classic board game. I initially found this site and a few others and set up a test account before inviting a few family / friends. I do enjoy the team games and that was my intent on inviting them. Some of you may remember a few players I played frequently with on teams :) I have stayed they have not :( I am glad I did stay as I enjoy the new site :D and have gotten to know a few of the players a little bit through the games and would probably miss them if I stopped seeing them in games lol I remember when Redsharkk was MIA, I thought I wouldnt get to play with them again :(

Similar to Willco66 I like that I can get on for twenty min every day or so depending on turns and not have to play for hours in a day. I have other time consuming hobbies and life is hectic for games to take up a majority of a day.

The game is fun to play without taking up to much time in a day compared to that of sitting down in a board game of risk (which is terrible to play).

This adds far more startergy and team games are always fun.

The game can sometime drag on for a bit and become repetitive. Tends to be the larger maps, with many players involved.

Well, I'm late to the party.

I have stayed, Kenny!! Or rather...come back lol. :)

Also totally digging these smilies.

I like Art of War, like most of you have said, because I can come check on games any time of the day and play for a bit, without having to sit for hours to finish a game. Plus, there's many variations and maps which offer multiple styles of game play. I'm also not the greatest at RISK, so this offers me a place where I can improve. And I like the team options, as well as the fact that I can literally play with lots of other players at the same time (I don't fancy fitting 20 people around my table to play a game of risk, lol).

To build upon my paltry understanding of defeat.

It seems that I don't have the aggressive competitive edge needed to play most strategic war games,...
I play both "Diplomacy" and "Supremacy 1914" in which I both try to cultivate life long allies and seek to better my militaristic skills.

in the latter I tend to go economic instead of production of force. I've always been the support class player.

In most PVP games I focus on the missions instead of hunting and killing other players. In FPS's I always go Medic or Engineer class as I really don't get the hang of going for the kill. I can build an empire, I just like to do it with a lot less bloodshed and more bribery.

:D Is that really so bad? :?

Actually, this may be something you could suggest to pi. Maybe adding in an aspect of game play where you ally with other players in game. Kind of like you see on other big risk game sites.

:) It would probably have a lot of pros and cons, but might be something interesting. (Still, there are the alt win conditions on some games, though I understand that many players typically go for other players rather than specifically the win conditions  ). Or possibly ask for more options in win conditions in games. Like maybe you need to ally with another player and take over this much territory, or take over two regions. :P

Yeah I'm not one to attack relentlessly either. Though if I get hit first you can expect total war... tbh it really depends on the number of players which WC is easier. In one with a ton of players it's easier for 12 cap 3 rc but in one with 2 or 3 its easier to just eliminate what few opponents you have without wandering around neutral-killing.
