Dummy Maps & Rotating Board Layouts

Postby FIRE! » Sun Aug 02, 2015 8:05 am

Would it be possible to have a page on the site where people could just look at the maps, so they could see the regions and understand what types of soldiers come with each territory. For those new players who suddenly step into an Aegean Sea game for the first time, and fog of war is turned on, and they get eliminated after the first round, there is not much learning going on about how the board is laid out. Many of these boards are very unfamiliar to new people on this site, and the people with more experience seem to enjoy poaching the newbies. In order to at least provide some balance and fair play, it might be nice to have dummy boards available so people can develop a strategy before they find themselves getting put out of the game in the second round of a 32 round game.

Another way around this is to have 3-4 different layouts for each board. That way, no one region gains the same advantage every time the board is played. Of course, people would be able to learn all of the layouts eventually, but it would take much longer, and having 4 possible board set-ups would increase the surprise of each game. New people who not necessarily be put at the same disadvantage every game. If an experienced player chose Norway because they had won the last 3 games playing as Norway, only to find out that the set-up was different this time, then that solves that problem right there.

The Dummy maps idea should be relatively easy to implement. The rotating board idea would take substantially more effort, but in the long run, it would make the site much cooler, and it would keep experienced players from taking such blatant advantage of newer players.

You're talking about projects, and yes they're in. That's how content gets on the site. You can navigate to the Project Browser by going to the menu item Projects > Browse Projects.

Here's the links to the current Scenarios playable on the site:

Currently the project creator functions aren't hidden from sight, but you can't permanently edit anything as a non-owner anyhow. Enjoy!
